At the July 22, 2008 council meeting, the City Council of the City of Central passed a Sign Ordinance regulating all signs within the city of Central. A public hearing was held at the council meeting, and there was no objection to the ordinance. This ordinance has been under discussion for over six months and involved participation from community leaders, local sign companies, and interested citizens.
A copy of the Sign Ordinance is available on the city’s website at www.centralgov.com. All legal existing signs will be allowed to remain. However, if a business sells and changes names, the old sign must be removed and the new sign must comply with the new regulations. The new ordinance follows smart growth techniques and requires all new signs to be monument or ground mounted signs no higher than 8 feet and no larger than 40 square feet for single businesses. All signs require a permit by calling the Central Municipal Services Center at 262-5000. Temporary signs, such as banners, are also regulated in the ordinance.
