Central Private Football Defeats Oak Forest Academy 7-6

Defense was back in Dixie Land on Friday night as the Central Private Rebels answered the call of Coach Mike Longmire and turned back the Yellow Jackets of Oak Forest Academy by the score of 7-6.  Coach Longmire issued a challenge and a gut check a week ago following a 32-14 defeat to Brookhaven Academy.  Senior lineman Andy Kinchen said we did not do great but we got the job done.  A win is a win.  The win is the third in district and brings the CP Rebel record to 3-0 in district and 4-1 overall.

The Rebel defense limited the Yellow Jackets to 26 yards on 21 plays in the first half and held  a 7-0 lead at the intermission.  Bobby Muse had the only score for the Rebels on a 1-yard plunge into the endzone with 11:54 remaining in the second half.  The Rebels were able to move the ball 42-yards on the running of Muse who had 78 yards on the evening on 29 carries.  Fullback Travis Richard was able to gain 71 yards on 9 carries mostly through the middle of the Yellow Jacket defense.

It was the Rebel defense led by Chase Metz, Travis Rose, and Matt Wallace that led the way for the victory.  Oak Forest Academy broke into the scoring column on a 30-yard blast by Michael Gill.  Gill had 5 carries for 32 yards on the evening.  Down 7-6 OFA decided to go for the 2pt PAT.  Britt Meyer and Muse combined to stop Gill short on an option to the right side.  Of the play, Meyer said,” I grabbed his feet and Bobby(Muse) smashed him.  Muse said,” I knew that we needed it and I was just determined to get it done.”  Oak Forest was able to get the ball one last time but a 6-yard sack by Matt Wallace ended the threat and CP held on for the 7-6 victory.

Coach Longmire called it a super effort by the kids.  We flew around the ball real well.  Penalties killed us.  We should have had 2 more touchdowns.  We are 3-0 in district.  It was a big win.  Coach Jamie and Coach Smith did a great job with the defense and Coach DiJohn always does a good job with the line.  The game ball was given to team leader and captain Brennan Courville.  Brennan was lost for the season with a knee injury two weeks ago in the win over Centreville Academy.  Courville is also the catcher for the 4-time defending champion Rebel baseball team.  Central Private returns to action on Friday when they travel to Columbia in Mississippi.

Central School Board Holds Called Meeting (See Full Video Below)

The Central Community School Board met this evening at 6PM in a called meeting to consider an extension on a line of credit. On 9/26/07 the system opened a $1,150,000 line of credit and borrowed $750,000 against that line. The line comes due for repayment in about two weeks on 10/15/08. Superintendent Faulk explained that timing of payments on Grants, Ad-Valorem taxes and State MFP funds necessitates requesting a 90 day extension on the repayment of the line of credit. The first payment of Ad-Valorem taxes from the Sheriff’s department is due on 1/10/2009 and will amount to $2,150,000.

The board, after some discussion, voted to authorize the school system staff to go before the Louisiana Community Development Authority and request the extension to 1/15/2009. The vote was unanimous and the meeting was adjourned.

Storm Debris Pickup Update 9/29

The first round of storm debris cleanup in the City of Central is nearing an end.  There are only a few areas remaining in the first round of pickups.  For daily updates of areas being cleared, please check out the city’s website at www.centralgov.com.   Debris along state roads will be picked up by DOTD’s contractor, and debris on Parish Rds (Sullivan, Joor Rd north of Hooper, Comite, and Dyer) will be picked up by the City-Parish.

A second round of each street will begin later this week.  Areas that were picked up first in the initial pickup will be picked up first in the second round.  If you have storm debris to be picked up, please place it near the street by Sept. 30.  It is anticipated that the second round of pickup can be completed within 14 days.

Any debris placed out by the street after the second pass is picked up on a street will become the responsibility of the property owner to remove.

Please do not stack debris directly adjacent to the street or in the street.  Please leave at least 3 feet distance between the edge of the street and your debris.   Please do not stack debris near water meters, hydrants, power lines, or driveways.

Logs must be no longer than 10 ft in length and no wider than 24 inches.  Stumps must be cut into similar sized pieces.

Thank you for patience during the cleanup.   Please feel free to forward this to all of your Central neighbors.

Central High Damage Update

The Central High Freshman locker room and ROTC building suffered severe damages during Hurricane Gustav due to the roof being pulled off. Because damages were not able to be repaired, additional damages were suffered during another rain and wind storm last week.

School Board President Russell Starns stated that the damages are still under investigation and different options are being discussed including putting on a pitched metal roof. The school board is waiting on an insurance adjuster but they are working with a contractor and all damages will be repaired.

Superintendant Faulk could not be reached for comment.

Below are the pictures of the damage.
