No pickup Sunday due to heavy rains Saturday at the dumpsite. The road has become too muddy for the trucks to pass. They hope to resume again tomorrow. By Tuesday, they should be nearing 77,000 cubic yards of woody waste.
Anyone who still has debris to be picked up is asked to get it by the roadside no later than (Monday 9/22) so that everything can be cleared in a second pass of each street, which should begin later this week. All loose items such as leaves must be bagged. The contractor will not pick up piles of leaves. It is our understanding that Allied Waste will only pick up 3 bags at a time on normal trash collection day. Other materials such as fences, household waste, and bulky items will be picked up last on a separate pass. Please separate these items from your tree debris.
Crews will continue working on the first pass in the Frenchtown Road area and Comite Hills West and Lovett Rd areas on Monday, as well as other scattered areas around the city. Crews have picked up approx. 80% of the debris along city-maintained streets in just 10 days.
If you live along a state highway, debris should be placed out for pickup by DOTD. If you live along a Parish road, debris should be placed out for pickup by the City-Parish.
kenramsey.com publishes calculated Power Ratings and Strength Factors. These are not official, but should be close. In Power Ratings Central is listed as tied for #17, behind Denham Springs at #16 and Scotlandville at #2. In Strength Factor Central is currently at #41.
For anyone who is in the dark on Power Points, here is an explanation found on the St. James school website:
POWER POINTS FORMULA
Ever wonder how that crazy number that determines a team’s seed in the playoffs is calculated? What is the strength of schedule factor? How does that tie into the power points? I’ve come up with a little explanation of how this stuff works and how to get those numbers. The Power Points rating is very important to the playoffs. Winning your district automatically puts you into the playoffs. The remaining playoffs spot are taken by the top teams in the power points rating. From there, every team is seeded by their power points rating. Ties are broken first by head to head match up if the two or more teams played during the season. If the two or more teams didn’t play, the strength factor is then used.
You must first use the following point system to come up with a power point rating.
Each WIN!! 10 points
Playing up in class – 2 points per class played up.
Season’s opponents win – 1 point per opponent win
To get POWER POINT RATING…
POINTS from the points system /(divided by) Number of games played = POWER POINTS
The “Strength of Schedule” factor comes into play in the event of a tie between teams that haven’t played each other during the regular season. To get the “Strenght of Schedule” factor, you simply add up each team’s class that you play during the year. Example, 2A + 3A + 4A= 9 This year, for St. James, that number would be 32. Taking the number of the class number totals, you then add 1 point for each win each team on the schedule gets. So let’s say St. James wins in week one and every single other team on the schedule also wins their game. St. James’ stregth of schedule factor would go up to 41, adding the 9 wins from the opponents.
Our Central High football team came out on the opening drive and used a reverse-lateral-trick play to score its first touchdown. A fumble recovery, a blocked extra point and a blocked punt, along with a potent offense, led to a 31-13 final score as the Wildcats moved to 2-0 for the season.
With 9:19 remaining in the first quarter Ed Cutno on a reverse trick play threw a 7 yd pass to Josh Watts and Mathew Thibodeaux added the PAT. Then with 4:03 remaining in Quarter one, Antonio Dunn scored on a 1 yd run with Thibodeaux adding the extra point. St. Amant got its first 7 points as time expired in the first quarter to make it 14-7 Central. At the 5:08 mark of the second quarter Will Briscoe tossed a 29 yd pass to Antonio Dunn for a score and Thibodeaux again added the PAT. Half time score, Central 21, St. Amant 7.
At the end of the third quarter St. Amant drove for a score but the extra point attempt was blocked by Louis Covington of Central. In the fourth quarter Briscoe ran in from the one for a score with Thibodeaux adding the extra point. Thibodeaux added a 28 yd field goal later in the quarter to cap the scoring at 31-13 in favor of Central.
Central piled up 491 yards of total offense to 243 by St. Amant. Briscoe went 21 for 33 for 275 yards, 1 Td and 2 INT. Davis, Cutno and Dunn combined for 14 receptions totaling 182 yards and Dunn added 59 yards on the ground on 13 carries. On Defense, Pourciau, Vest, Osezemwinde, Johns and Ghorum combined for 27.5 tackles and 2.5 sacks.

Our thanks to Mike for providing these images.
The seniors at Central Private studied the principle of bouyancy developed by Archemedies. They were challenged to make boats entirely out of cardboard and plastic sheeting. Then, they were challenged to get in the boats and float. Reports are that all boats did indeed float, thus proving that Archemedies was right! Enjoy the pictures
Central residents are reminded to use the “Central, LA” and their current zip code as their address when buying items such as roofing supplies, building materials, appliances, or other household items that need to be delivered to their homes. This is important so that the City of Central and the Central Community School System can receive the sales taxes on those delivered items from merchants. If you use Baton Rouge, Baker, or Zachary as your address, and you actually live in the city limits of Central, then the sales taxes will probably be mistakenly remitted to one of those municipalities by the merchant. If you use Greenwell Springs or Pride, the sales tax dollars will probably go to the Parish instead of to Central. So, please use “Central” as your address for all delivery purchases so that the merchants can properly remit the sales taxes on your delivered items.
