Central Private Rebels Claim District Championship

By  |

The Central Private Rebels end every practice session with the chant, ” We believe in team!” that belief and the work that went with it have led the Rebels to a district championship.  A  38-20 victory over the Bowling Green Buccaneers in Franklinton on Friday night clinched the championship for CP.  Bobby Muse got started early in the ball game taking his third carry of the night 46-yards to get the Rebels on the board with 9:23 remaining in the first quarter.  Brandt Moore added the PAT and CP led 7-0.
Cash Cooley of the Bucs tightened the game with a 2-yard blast into the endzone.  The PAT was missed and CP held a 7-6 lead.  The BG score followed a Rebel turnover at its own 23 yard line when a snap on a punt sailed over Gage Wilkinson’s head.  Two plays later and Muse was at it again, this time from 65-yards away.  Muse gave credit to his offensive line and said, “They blew open holes and I just had to run through them.”
Senior offensive guard remarked, ” The offensive line is my family.  I would do anything for them.  The put-em-away gang has been working together for 7-8 years as an offensive line.  The extra point was wide and the score remained CP 13 BG 6 with 3:14 remaining in the first quarter.  T.J. Wilkinson intercepted a Cooley pass and returned it to the Buc 37-yard line on Bowling Green’s next possession.  Quarterback Jacob Fryoux then hit his big tight end Thomas Bourgeois with a pass that brought the ball to the Buc 14.  Muse would then make one of his only mistakes on the night as he fumbled on the Buc 8-yard line.

After Chase Metz made 2 tackles behind the line of scrimmage on the ensuing drive, BG was forced to punt.  Beginning at midfield, Gage Wilkinson and Travis Richard mixed in some rushes through the middle and 8-plays later, Muse added his third TD with a 1-yard rush on fourth down.  T.J. Wilkinson picked off his second pass of the night on Bowling Green’s next possession.  Wilkinson said, “We have been looking forward to this type of game all year.  Bowling Green is known for passing and we haven’t been tested like that before.”
Muse would add to his point total with :49 left before half.  This time it was another 1-yard run.  Muse would finish the night with 5 touchdowns and 329 yards on 33 carries for the night.  He had 209 at the half.  The PAT was not good and CP had a 25-6 halftime lead.
The Rebels would score again on another 5-yard run by Muse with less than 2-minutes to go in the 3rd quarter.  Another missed extra point left the score CP 31 BG  6.  Gage Wilkinson would add a final touchdown for the Rebels with a 5-yard blast into the end zone.  He would also add the 2-pt PAT.  The Buccaneers added 2 late touchdowns on long passes to make a final score of  Central Private 38 Bowling Green 20.

Coach Longmire who has coached district champions in previous stops at Broadmoor and Woodlawn said, ” District championships are what we preached at the beginning.  It was one of our goals.  These seniors have come so far in four years.  This championship tops the cake of all the rest.  We are not satisfied.  We are looking to go forward into the playoffs.  We have the greatest fans, this victory was for the whole CP family.”
As one of the coaches told his team, “If we do everything right we have a chance to run the  table.”
After a bye week this Friday the Rebels return to action in week 1 of the MPSA playoffs at home against a yet to be determined opponent.
