Give Back to Our Community

Central is developing into a wonderful, caring community, and a huge part of that has been thanks to the giving attitude of our city. There are a few opportunities coming up to give a little extra to those in need. This weekend, October 11th through 12th, St. Alphonsus Catholic Church on the corner of Greenwell Springs and Frenchtown Road is holding their monthly food pantry collection weekend. All non-perishable food items and toiletries are needed, and the collection barrels can be found in the Gathering Space at the church. Journey Church is also currently having their Thanksgiving Feast Outreach food drive. You can fill a bag with food itmes to help families in our area enjoy holiday meals. The drive lasts through October 26th, and lists of items and bags can be found at the information desk at Journey Church at 17407 Greenwell Springs Road.

Also coming up are two blood drives. These drives represent a huge opportunity to help save the lives of those around us at very little cost to ourselves. Journey Church is hosting a blood drive on October 19th from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the church. Participants must be at least 17 years old and will be given free t-shirts and blend coupons for participating. First Baptist Church of Central is holding their blood drive at the church at 14512 Greenwell Springs Road on October 25th from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM. Call the church office at 261-8903 with any questions. These blood drives and food drives are simple ways to give, so let’s step forward as a community to show we care.

Help Needed Painting The CHS Football Field

This Thursday (and every Thursday before a home game) at 4:00 PM a group of dedicated Wildcat supporters will meet at Wildcat Stadium to paint the lines and logos on the field.  The process takes up to six hours and requires a number of people.  If you can give an evening of your time in support of our team please call Henry Goudeau at 202-6127, or just show up.  Leave early, come late, just help when you can.  No experience is necessary and the more people who show up, the less time it takes.  The football program thanks you!

CPS Rebel Football Scores Definitive Win

Webster defines versatility as turning with ease from one position or thing to another and having many aptitudes.  The play of the Central Private Rebels in their 40-14 victory over Columbia Academy on Friday night fit both definitions.
The Rebels scored in a variety of ways and with a variety of people.  Running back Bobby Muse got the scoring started on a 15-yard reception from quarterback Jason Young.  Brandt Moore added the PAT and CP took an early 7-0 lead.  Columbia Academy’s Josh Hamilton would answer that touchdown with a 1-yard run of his own and CA tied the score at 7-7 with the successful PAT.
CP would score the next four touchdowns to put the game into the victory column for the Rebels.  Muse who had 187-yards rushing on the night added a 75-yard run for six points to his earlier touchdown reception to give the Rebels that they would not relinquish.  After the Moore PAT the Rebels led 14-7.
The defense joined the scoring parade as they returned two successive CA fumbles into 14 points.  First defensive end Matt Wallace scooped up a Columbia Academy and rumbled 30-yards for a Rebel score.  CA would cough up the football again and this time Young would take it into the end zone from 45-yards away to add to his touchdown pass and a 27-7 Rebel lead at the half.
The Rebels would begin the third quarter just as they ended the second, scoring.  This touchdown came courtesy of another Rebel quarterback, Jacob Fryhoux, throwing a 38 yard strike to Wallace for his second score on the evening.
Fullback Travis Richard who rushed for 95-yards on the evening, finished the Rebel scoring with a 10-yard blast through the middle of the CA defense.  Chad Ward added a late score on a four yard run for Columbia Academy to make the final score Central Private 40 Columbia Academy 14.
The offensive front five of Steven Whiddon, Matt Overlease, Cam Tate, Andy Kinchen, and Travis Rose paved the way for 307-yards rushing for the Rebels on the night.  The defense led by Chase Metz, Tyler Schultz, Gage Wilkerson, and Ridge Perkins held CA to under 200 total yards for the game.  The win kept the Rebels perfect in district play at 4-0 and moved them to 5-1 on the season.

Bellingrath Hills Students are taking part in the National Mock Election

This month we are talking about voting for president. In the Computer Lab, students will be taking part in a mock election that is sponsored by the Secretary of State. They will be able to vote for the candidate of their choice. It will be done by secret ballot on the computer before Oct. 30. On October 30, we will receive the final result for our school, and also for the other elementary schools around the country. It will be posted on the website as soon as we get the results.
Please discuss the candidates with your children. As teachers, we are not campaigning for a certain candidate. We are more concerned with teaching your child about the voting process and good citizenship. Please inform your child about both candidates and who you feel would be the best president and why. Thank you for your assistance in this manner and we are very excited about this process. For more information on the National Mock Election, visit geauxvote.com.
