A ½-cent sales tax is estimated to raise $1.3 million yearly. The tax will be levied on the sale of those goods purchased within the City Limits of Central.
The 9.25-mill property tax will raise approximately $12 million over a 20-year period to pay for a general obligation bond. Individual cost estimates are:
Homes assessed value < $75,000 = $0
Homes assessed value at $100,000 = $23.13/year
Homes assessed value at $200,000 = $115.63/year
The 14.4-mill property tax will raise approximately $20 million over a 20-year period to pay for a general obligation bond. Individual cost estimates are:
Homes assessed value < $75,000 = $0
Homes assessed value at $100,000 = $36/year
Homes assessed value at $200,000 = $180/year

The Central Private Rebels completed a 3 game sweep of the Bpwling Green Buccaneers on Thursday in Franklinton. Tyler Schultz struck out seven while allowing only 3 hits and no walks. The key to the performance for Schultz was control as he constantly painted the corners of the plate. Jason Milton suffered the loss for the Buccaneers.
The Rebels were able to start the scoring early as they put two runs on the board in the top of the first inning when Gage Wilkinson and Travis were able to cross the plate after Bowling Green throwing errors. Austin Hughes scored the only run for the Buccaneers after a single by Evan Smith. Two of the Buccaneers’ three hits came in the first inning. The Rebels picked up 3 runs in the third, 3 more in the sixth, and single runs in the fifth and seventh. Rose had 2 runs and 2 RBIs for the Rebels. Chase Metz also scored twice and had 2 hits and 2 RBIs. Central Private now has an overall record of 20-1.
The next district game for Central Private will be a home game against Silliman on April 14th at 6:30. This will be the final regular-season home game for the Rebels.

The Central Private Rebels got a dominating pitching performance from Ridge Perkins as they completed a doubleheader sweep of the Bowling Green Buccaneers with a score of 11-8. Perkins pitched 5 innings of 5 hit baseball and struck out 9 while allowing only 2 earned runs. Perkins escaped bases loaded, 1 out trouble in the first inning by inducing a double play ground ball and again in the second inning with two strikeouts. Gage Wlkinson picked up the save for the Rebels by striking out the only batter he faced. He was also 2 for 2 at the plate and scored 3 runs. Jacob Fryoux picked up 2 RBIs and scored twice as he had 2 hits with one being a double. Thomas Bourgeois added a double and 2 RBIs for the Rebels, as did Taylor Ort. Landon Williams had 2 hits and scored 3 runs for Bowling Green.
Game 1: The CP Rebels were able to break open a close game with four runs in the last 2 innings to take the opening game of a doubleheader against the Buccaneers, 6-2. Thomas got his first win of the season, allowing 1 run in four innings while striking out 6 and allowing 3 hits. Jason Young got the save pitching the final three innings. Ridge Perkins provided the big hit for the Rebels with his sixth home run of the season. The 3-run blast came in the fifth inning and put the game out of reach for Bowling Green. Travis Rose also had a double, a run, and an RBI for Central Private.

On Saturday, May 2, the community of Central will vote on three school propositions that could determine the future of our community school system’s progress. Please take time to become an informed voter.
What’s on the ballot?
• Proposition No. 1 – a ½-cent sales and use tax dedicated to pay for the construction of a new Central Middle School and to acquire property for expansion needs of the school system.
• Proposition No. 2 – a 20-year, 9.25-mill tax dedicated to pay for renovations that address life safety code issues at the school system’s existing schools.
• Proposition No. 3 – a 20-year, 14.4-mill tax dedicated to pay for the construction, furnishing and equipping of a new elementary school and, if necessary, the acquisition of land for the new school; and to pay for improvements to school facilities and equipment.

The Central High Baseball team has been having a busy week, but they are making the most of it. The baseball team was one of several CHS teams that have had to reschedule games from last week after all of the rain. Central has continued to play well this week after their win against Woodlawn on Monday. Tuesday the Wildcates defeated Scotlandville 9-2, and, in yesterday’s makeup game at Walker, they took another win with a score of 8-2. These victories put the CHS baseball record at 13-8-1 overall, and they remain undefeated in district play. The Wildcats will face off today at 4 PM against Denham Springs High.

The CHS varsity softball team has continued to improve their record in district play this week. On Tuesday, the Wildcats played at Woodlawn and won with an impressive score of 11-1. Yesterday the Wildcats continued to perform well as they played another away game and defeated St. Joseph’s Academy 2-0 at Independence Park. Wednesday’s game was a makeup game from last week as the rain caused several CHS sports teams to reschedule their events. Central softball currently has a record of 5-1 in district play, and they are looking to score another win at home this afternoon at 4 PM against Walker.

Crystal Place is a neighborhood off of Denham Road and they publish a monthly newsletter “as a means to help ensure the livability of our subdivision.” Each month’s newsletter will be made available at the links below this article as a service to the residents of Crystal Place. Innitiatives like the Crystal Place Newsletter are one reason that Central is such a great place to live. We commend the subdivision for their community spirit and we hope that having the newsletter available on-line will further their efforts.
