Weekly Update from the Mayor’s Office

By  |

The speed limit on the newly widened Joor Rd is 45 mph.  DOTD has not posted speed limit signs yet, as they are waiting for the contractor to finish up the driveway and shoulder work.   Please remember that the school zone in front of Central Intermediate is 20 mph.   DOTD has given permission for school zone flashing beacons to be installed by the city.  This should be accomplished within 6 to 8 weeks.  Once that is done, the school zone speed limit will be 35 mph instead of 20 mph.  The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Department has been running radar on Joor Rd lately, so please obey the speed limit in both the school zone and the main stretch of Joor Rd.

Several ordinances will be discussed by the city council at their next meeting on Tuesday, October 13 at 6pm.  Included will be ordinances regarding maintenance of property (obnoxious weeds and overgrown grass) and an ordinance pertaining to truancy issues and parental supervision of children.  All of these ordinances are available for viewing on our website homepage at www.centralgov.com.

Business owners are reminded that the city has a sign ordinance.  Please check with our service center (262-5000) before installing any business signs.
