“On Any Given Friday…” CHS Football Upset By Westgate

By  |

In a twist on the old saying, “On any given Friday any team can beat any other team.”  This Friday Westgate was that “Any Team.”  The Lions applied a consistent and strong ground game, eating up yards and clock, to pile up 35 minutes of posession and 30 points and advance to the Semi-Finals of the state playoffs.  As usual, Central had a good passing attack, but in the end could not match Westgate’s running game score-for-score.  Final, Westgate 30, Central 27.

The Wildcats sored first just over a minute into the game and did not lose the lead until Westgate put up the go-ahead touchdown with 7:49 remaining in the game.  The #21 ranked Lions ran for 237 yards in their 345 yards of total offense while the #4 Wildcats were held to 31 yards on the ground for a total offense of 259 yards.  On this one Friday night Westgate’s running game was three points better than Central’s passing game.  Game and season stats can be seen at:  GAME STATS     SEASON STATS

Central finishes the 2009 season in the state quarterfinals with an overall record of 11-2.  While the team certainly had its eyes on the Superdome, let us not lose sight of the great season it has been.  The games have been a weekly rallying point and social event for thousands of us here in Central.  Thanks to the players, managers and coaches for a great run again this year.

In another game of local interest, the #11 ranked Catholic Bears upset Acadiana and have moved to the semi-finals to face West Monroe.  Go Catholic!
