Santa’s Reindeer- Did You Know?

By  |

The names of eight of Santa’s reindeer (Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, and Blitzen) were originally part of the 1822 poem “A Visit from St. Nicholas” by Clement Clark Moore. It was not until 1939, over 100 years after the naming of the original reindeer, that Rudolph appeared. Mr. Robert May wrote a story about Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, which became a promotion by the department store Montgomery Ward during the Christmas holidays. The story later became a song made famous by Gene Autry in 1949.
