What’s Cooking in Central

The City of Central is now five years old and its citizens are working hard to maintain a country atmosphere in the midst of unbelievable growth. Although there have been many changes in “life in Central”, the one constant has been that Central citizens are passionate about their children. “Cooking in Central” has taught our citizens an invaluable lesson: we can help ourselves but we must also reach out to others. In helping others, these blessings are multiplied and returned to us.

Over the last four years the “Cooking in Central” campaign has raised over $1,000,000.00. This year’s goal of $200,000.00 will bring our total over the $1,200,000.00 mark. The money raised at this year’s event will be for:  ALL Central Schools, Blue Star Mom’s Monument and a Property Fund for Future Events.

This year’s event will be held again at The Magnolia Square Development on Lovett Road.  This site offers more than ample room for the cooks and all the exciting things associated with the event.  This annual fund raiser will consist of jambalaya, bar-b-que chicken, fried turkey, couchon-du-lait and brisket contest.  There will be a live and silent auction, along with raffles, live entertainment, Antique Car Show and plenty of activities for the children.  Kick off for the event will be on Friday, April 16th at 5pm with a Crawfish Boil and parking lot dance featuring the popular band “Carbon Copy”.  The festivities will continue again at 10:00am.  Saturday.

This project has the commitment from the entire community. There is something for everyone. Individuals are encouraged to sell tickets, enter or sponsor a cook-off team, donate items for the auctions, make a donation or become a corporate sponsor.  Citizens are encouraged to volunteer for one of the many jobs associated with such an event.  Roll up your sleeves, join your neighbors, and experience an incredible sense of accomplishment associated with this community event.  Your involvement in this great fund raiser will leave you with the sense of satisfaction of knowing that you have contributed to the well being of our community and the children of Central.

Please attend our planning sessions and join in this great event.  For additional information or to be placed on the e-mail list call Juanita Ross at 261-9999, [email protected] or contact one of the following committee members.
