2000 Census Participation- Did You Know?

By  |

The Census is sent out every 10 years to be filled out and mailed back by everyone in the United States. During the last Census, 72% of the country actually participated. In Central specifically, that number was lower, with only 63-68% participating. This was before Central became its own city. Now that we have our own city, it is even more important that everyone participate in the Census so that the City of Central can get the funding and representation it needs. Remember to put “City of Central” as your city when you fill out the Census.

Our wonderful leaders in Washington already have a plan to make us participate in the census. It will come by way of a $5000 fine for not completing the form. But, the only question required(Contitutionally), is how many people live in your household. I will submit an article about the 2010 census later.

I called the census office and it is true that you could be subjected to fines (though they did not specify the amount) if you do not answer the questions on the census. If you don’t mail back your census form by April, they have census takers show up at your door and ask you the questions in person. Maybe the fines come up if you won’t mail back your form or talk to the census people.
