6th Annual Gold Star Mothers Luncheon

By  |

The Gold Star Mothers are mothers of those soldiers who have lost their lives in combat.  This group, along with the Blue Star Mothers, was one of the recipients of funds from this year's Cookin' in Central.  The children of these women have paid the ultimate price for our freedom, and each year, a luncheon is held for these mothers.  This year's Gold Star Mothers Luncheon was held last Saturday, May 1st at PARC 73 in Prairieville.  Pictured below are, left to right, Janet Broussard (EMR Support Specialist), Rex Kern (Director of the Port Hudson National Cemetery), Cathy Rushing (Gold Star Mother and Central resident whose son, Jared Crouch, was killed in action in Iraq), and Mayor Mac Watts.  In the photo, Mayor Watts is presenting a $4,000 check from Cookin' in Central to the Gold Star Mothers for a monument to be placed in the Port Hudson National Cemetery commemmorating all soldiers killed in action.
