Message from Senator Vitter: Medication Recall

By  |

The following message is from Senator David Vitter concerning the recent recall of some children's medications.

As a father of four, I, like any parent, am concerned about the safety of the medications we give to our children.  That is why I wanted to alert you of this voluntary recall of infant and children's liquid products including Tylenol, Motrin, Zyrtec and Benadryl.

The Food and Drug Administration has stopped all production of these children's medications and is working with the drug manufacturer to implement this recall after manufacturing deficiencies were found. The recall began when it was found these products were not meeting quality standards because the medications contained a higher concentration of active ingredients than indicated on the label. The FDA is advising parents to seek out generic alternatives to these medications, and warns parents to not give their children adult strength medications as a substitute.

We must do everything we can to protect both adults and children from harmful medications. For more information, please read the FDA NEWS RELEASE that provides more information about the voluntary recall. Also, please do not hesitate to contact any of my eight offices if you have any questions or concerns.
