CPS Students Garner Top Awards in Academic Competitions

Central Private students competed at the Southeast Louisiana District Literary Rally, the Louisiana State Literary Rally and the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools Academic Betterment Competition (ABC).  At the Southeast LA District Rally at Southeastern Louisiana University, thirty-eight students competed and all placed in the top 8 in their respective subjects.  The following students placed in the top three:

Nicole Dykes, Algebra I, 3rd; Lance Wicker, Algebra II-1st; Orrin Byland, American History-2nd; Jill King, Biology I-1st; Stephen Smith, Business/Financial Math-1st; Haley Myers, Calculus-1st; Amanda Givens, Calculus-2nd; Sy Tate, Chemistry -2nd; Mary Leavines, English II-2nd; Mary Cunningham, English III-2nd; Justin Starnes, Environmental Science-1st; Luke Fryoux, Geometry-2nd; Sky Baca, Geometry-1st; Jared Riddle, Physics-1st; Brandy Melancon, Spanish II-3rd; David Arnold, Spelling-2nd; Steven Padgett, World Geography-2nd; Marcus Sandifer, World History –1st

Of the students who qualified for the Louisiana State Literary Rally, the following students placed:

Nicole Dykes, Algebra I-4th (Division V);  Jill King, Biology I-3rd (Division V)

In the MAIS ABC competition, the following students achieved placement:

Amy Galiano, Advanced Math-District 3rd; Trey Kolb, Middle School American History-District 1st; Orrin Byland, American History-District 3rd; Jill King, Biology I-District 2nd, Overall 4th.
