School Board Candidate Bio: Gerry Edgens

By  |

I am running for Central School Board District 6.  I am married to Kathy Kinsley Edgens, daughter of former CHS Principal, Charles Kinsley Sr. and educator Sue Don Kinsley.  We have two children, Hunter, 15, attends Central High and Heather, 11, attends Central Middle.

My qualifications include 20 years experience at Turner Industries in management and the construction bids process.  I have worked with parents and children of all school ages as the President of CAYSA for three years, and as President and Vice President of the Central Backers for the past five years.  I have also coached youth football, basketball and baseball for ten years.

I am active in school fundraising and am the Vice President of the Central Men’s Club.  I was also instrumental in developing the Central Middle School discipline policy. My family and I attend St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.

As a School Board member I will represent students, parents, teachers and citizens in all seven districts.  Our current board, with four educators, did well during the developmental stages.  Now that we are in the growth and building stages our board needs more diversity.  Three educators and one business owner remain on the board unopposed.  My experience in management, construction and bid procedures will be a valuable asset to the board.  I will be an active voice at school board meetings for all students, faculty, parents and citizens.  I will stay current with school events every day, as my children attend Central High and Central Middle.

I have personally worked on construction projects at seven schools in EBR, Livingston and Ascension parishes.  I would appreciate it if the residents of District 6 would vote on October 2nd and give me the chance to bring new ideas and vision to the Central Community School System.
