With a series of scrimmages and jamborees under their belt, the Central High School football team is gearing up for this Friday’s season opener against Port Allen.  The fans are eagerly awaiting the first game, interested to see how the Wildcats have prepared for the season after losing a strong starting lineup at the end of last year.  Hope is high, however, as a new class is stepping forward to take the lead this season.

At the Wildcat Jamboree last weekend, CHS lost a close game to West Feliciana, 7-12.  The Wildcats were strong in several areas, with only one fumble vs West Feliciana’s four, and two penalties compared to their opponent’s ten.  Cortlan Hutchinson led the Wildcats in rushing, with 6 attempts for a total of 27 yards.  John Davis and Trevor Sansone were also strong contributors, with 15 yards and 13 yards rushing, respectively.  Austin Watts brought a great performance Friday as well, punting twice for an average of 44 yards each.  Cortlan Hutchinson ran in the sole touchdown for the Wildcats, with Matthew Thibodeaux kicking the extra point.  Come to Port Allen this Friday to cheer on the Wildcats at 7 p.m. in their opening game against the Pelicans.
