Ochsner Health System will offer seasonal flu vaccinations on Saturday, October 9th, from 8:00am – 12:00pm, at Ochsner Health Center on O’Neal Lane, 16777 Medical Center Drive. The event is open to the public.  Participants are encouraged to have their insurance card or Medicare card with them.
“Even though we are not facing a pandemic such as the H1N1 flu outbreak of last year, it is as important as ever that people receive the seasonal flu vaccine,” says Chad Braden, MD – Ochsner Family Medicine Specialist.  Dr. Braden says this year’s seasonal flu vaccine will protect against the seasonal flu and the H1N1 strain from 2009.
“Because the flu vaccine is the best method of preventing the flu, it is recommended that everyone over six months of age receive a seasonal flu vaccine this year,” says Dr. Braden.   He also reminds everyone to wash their hands frequently with soap and water or an alcohol based sanitizer to prevent spreading the flu.  In addition, you should stay home if you are sick and cough or sneeze into a tissue or into the elbow.
