Council Request- Number Your Houses for Your Own Good

While there is actually an ordinance in place requiring homes and businesses to display the street address, it is for your own health and safetey.  Council Member Wayne Messina brought the issue up at Council Tuesday night, reminding everyone that all homes and businesses are required to display street numbers which are at least three inches in height.  He stressed, however, that efforts need to be made to ensure that the numbers can be clearly seen from the road.  The most urgent need for such visible numbers is for EMS, Police and Fire responders to be able to quickly identify the house requiring assistance.  (I take a moment of personal privilege to let the readers know that in the case of an actual fire, our Firefighters will no doubt spring into action on the burning building, regardless of house number, but they are often the first on the scene for less obvious calls such as medical emergencies.)

There are also less pressing needs for visible addresses, such as UPS or FedEx deliveries and the all-important Saturday night pizza delivery.  Whatever your motivation, you are encouraged to help everyone out by seeing that your house or business address is visible from the road and clearly identifies your house.
