The CHS varsity football team has taken the district title for the third year in a row (shared this year with Zachary).  What was supposed to be a rebuilding season after losing many starters last year has become another chance to make a statement in the state playoffs.  Central dominated Live Oak in the final regular season game, 37-14.  The Wildcats focused on offense on the ground, scoring every one of their touchdowns rushing.  The defense kept a steady pace as they kept the Eagles scoreless until the end of the third quarter.

Game highlights included a fake extra point after the first touchdown, when kicker Matthew Thibodeaux ran the ball in for 2.  Brett Courville ran in two of the Wildcats’ five touchdowns, and Zach Edgens, James Richardson, and Trevor Sansone each rushed for the other three scores.  Zach Hetrick, Joey Jarreau, Jarrud Mayes, and Taylor Jenkins collaborated to make the night’s 2 sacks, and Tony Ragusa led the defense with 6 tackles and 8 assists.

The Wildcats are playing Friday night at 7 p.m. in Lloyd G. Porter Stadium (415 Center Street) in New Iberia.  Tickets are &8 at CHS in advance or $10 each at the gate Friday night.  Central fans should arrive as early as possible, as parking and seating on the visitor’s side are both limited.  Come pack the stadium with Central fans!
