CENTRAL – A Zachary man has been arrested after State Police said he was driving drunk when he flipped his pickup, killing his passenger.

36-year-old Todd Thomas was arrested last night in suspicion of vehicular homicide and DWI after the wreck on Blackwater Road near Blackwater Baptist Church.  He was also seriously injured in the crash.

Investigators said Thomas was driving his pickup at a high rate of speed when he missed a left turn and went off the road, flipping the truck and hitting a tree.  Thomas and his passenger were partially ejected from the vehicle; investigators said they were not wearing seat belts.

The passenger was declared dead at the scene, while Thomas was taken to Earl K. Long Hospital with serious injuries.  He will be booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish jail after being released from the hospital.

The passenger’s identity will be released after his family has been notified.
