Good God people can we please get another band than the “Carbon Copy” band. They play this event every year and they suck. A little variety does not hurt. Why can’t we book bands that some of the younger crowd would love to go see like “Bag of Donuts”, “Beer for Breakfast”, etc…

hey heres an idea for Captain wannabe Obvious, eat a bag of donuts and get slizzard like a g-6 at home with your classmates!

Captain Obvious…..Really? Seriously you think bag of donuts and beer for breakfast are better than Carbon Copy? What are you like 18? This band plays REAL music and caters to every age group not just the drunken college bar crowd. If the drunken college bar crowd music is what you want don’t buy a ticket to the ball head over to the station instead.

    Cptn. Obvious…
Mardi Gras Balls are for dancing and socializing.
It is a annual classy event which needs classy, tasteful
    entertainment for all ages.
If you want a bar band, like the Bag of Donuts, then go
to a bar. You know what they do and that is not the kind
of message we want to send to the community.

Capt’n Crunch……you can’t be serious! Perhaps you are the problem and should find yourself another ball; one more favored towards intoxicated, obnoxious, irresponsible attendees. Obviously you don’t understand, nor can differentiate the difference between a “Red Carpet Affair” and a “Bag of Donuts”! Go ahead, there are plenty of balls out there……just for you; we won’t miss you!

That is why the Central Ball will always be second rate. Other well established very well respected Krewes book Bags of Donuts all the time.

Which Band member of the Carbon “sucks” Band is related or best friend to the someone on the Chamber of Commerce. Why does Central always hire the same band. It is time to change the people in charge of this Krewe and get some people with fresh ideas and willing to change things up.

Captain Obvious..obvious you are not. Carbon Copy is a great band. They have a good time on stage and it makes for a good time on the dance floor. I personally know these people and will continue to follow them as I have for over 20 years. You should go to one of those “other” great balls if you don’t want to listen to them. Go get drunk and have a great time elsewhere you are not required to go. To the people that enjoy their music you will be doing us a great favor..YOLO…GO CARBON COPY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Precisely, Capt’n Crunch! As mentioned previously, please feel free to attend any other Krewe’s ball. Oh, in case you haven’t realized, Central is a very “TIGHT” community……you in…..or YOU out!!!!

Precisely, Capt’n Crunch, you should attend those “other” balls that appeal more to “needs/desires/wants/whateveryoucallit……!” Leave Central out!! Oh, in case you haven’t realized……Central is a tight community, and you are welcome in, but….

    Captain Obvious,

Such strong and hateful language. Yes, we are in America and you still have a right to your opinion but how would you feel if someone just came out and said that you suck? I would like some clarification on the term you used. Could you be more specific on how you determined that Carbon Copy “sucks”?

Is it that you have extensive musical training and experience that gives you the authority to judge the musical prowess of the members of Carbon Copy? If so, please enlighten us with your training and experience. I am an alumnus of the Central High School Band, Golden Band from Tigerland, LSU Wind Ensemble, LSU Symphonic Band, LSU Jazz Band, LSU Symphony Orchestra, LSU Saxophone Quartet and several local bands. I’ve also played in the orchestra for musicals produced by LSU, Central Private School, Central Community Theatre, Baton Rouge Little Theater and played in the orchestra for the world premier of “A Confederacy of Dunces”. I studied the saxophone at LSU, have been honing my craft for over 40 years, and am currently play soprano, alto and tenor saxophones and WX-5 electronic wind instrument (the only one I know of in Baton Rouge) for (you guessed it) The Carbon Copy Band. The other members of the band have equally extensive musical pedigrees.

If it’s not your extensive musical experience, perhaps it’s because, as you just don’t like the songs we play. We play a wide variety of music from Glen Miller to Lady Gaga and Katie Perry and have received many compliments from other bands. If there’s something you’d like to hear at the Mardi Gras Ball, please email me a list of the songs you’d like to dance to. You or anyone else can send me a list at and we’ll discuss them and incorporate the ones we can into our set.

If it’s neither of these reasons then you must have a grudge against one or more member of our band. If this is the case, please contact us so that we can come to a peaceful conclusion.

It’s obvious by the other comments posted here that you are in the minority.

And…..Honestly….This needs to be the last acrimonious word on the subject. I am always encouraged by honest attempts to bring things to a peaceful conclusion. Fergie, thanks for capably defending Carbon Copy and giving a legitimate resume to back it up. But, thanks even more for extending the olive branch with specific offers to reconcile. May I have your autograph?

Thanks Dave and Fergie – you’re high class, as always. Central demands a fantastic Central-based band for its own Mardi Gras function. If you don’t want to go to a party; you don’t go; you don’t bash the hosts and hostesses. The Captain evidently didn’t grow up with Central manners.

Last year was my first time to attend the event, I have been to other large Mardi Gras balls and frankly loved the lack of tableau and other time wasting traditions. I find nothing second rate about Central or its Mardi Gras ball. My girlfriend is shopping for her dress today and we cant wait to attend again. We are however in the “younger” crowd and enjoyed both the band tone of the event. To be honest, I found the name calling was unnecessary and rude. I dont know the band or the Chamber members, however I did find this event because I saw that band play at one of the largest “Most respected” Mardi Gras balls, the Iduna a few years ago and had a great time. There were a couple of thousand happy people in attendance! Well done Central!!!!

Now this is the Central I know and love!
Thanks folks for being the voice of reason !

    See you there!

    Captain O
Look at all the new friends you’ve made the last few days. I’m sure if you attended this year you would be crowned something.

I think Captain Obvious just might be affiliated with Bag of Donuts.

No matter who or what the “captain” is affiliated with, he is rude and offensive. You can make a point or lobby for change without insulting people whom Im sure did nothing to him. Its clear he has an issue with the event or someone running it. But I love how the band member gave his info should the captain want to speak directly, now Captain your turn to come out of your tiny little closet!

We decided to attend the Ball this year due to our neighbors begging us to go with them. I will say the Ball was larger than the last previous years that we attended; however, I will stand by my previous comments. The presentation of the ball was better than the years past. I will give last years ball a pass since it was an election year. It is time for the Central Ball to hire another band. It was painful to listen too. We just stood around and talked. It is time to make a change. If you go ask any of the attendees under 40 years old they all agree it is time for a change.

Also, we were told by many residents of Central that they were not attending the Ball due to the band. Everyone of them mentioned they have gone in the past but were not going due to the band.

Well Cptn Obvious. The dance floor was packed all night and everyone was dancing. I didnt see anybody sitting around. You are just a spoiled bratt that can’t get his way. Next time bring your bottle and we will make sure someone burps you.
I enjoyed the music and the band was awesome!!!!!
They play all types of great music for all ages.
No Rap or Heavy Metal was played and if that is what you want go somewhere else. Did you notice the Ball was sold out earlier than last year. A lot of us go because of the band.
Did you let anyone know who you are, I guess not
hiding is easy for you it seems.
God bless you anyway and Obama wants you to vote for him again next time.

What a great event!!! loved the theme and decorations! Kudos to whomever puts this event together! Had a couple with us from Texas that made us promise to take them again next year!!! Its really sad that a grown man paid for tickets to an event only to stand around and complain during the entire event! We were told it was a sell out and many couldnt get tickets so keep up the good work Central, you deserve more than just a pass, every aspect of the event was top notch!!!! thanks again, cant wait till next year!!!

Capt. oblivious, I am gonna have to call bull sh*t on your statement that residents of central are not attending because of the band choice. Being a resident from central myself I have never heard such crap dribbling out of your ignorant little pathetic mouth. Either you can’t see or can’t dance because from what I saw people were dancing on the dance floor all night and even dancing in there chairs till the very end. So just admit it, the female/male in your life(if one tolerates you) likes to dance and you can’t so you blame the band for your lack of skills. Do you blame the bed sheets for your lack of skills there too?

I agree strongly with David Wells..He said it best, you are a spoiled brat!! Central Mardi Ball is a very classy event and You, Captain Obvious, obviously do not belong with at our Ball!! Please go elsewhere for your party next year and you will have nothing to complain about, that is what you seem to do best!!
