On Monday, January 3rd, Central community members gathered at Zoar Baptist Church for the deployment ceremony of the 239th Military Police Company.  117 soldiers are deploying to Iraq with this unit.  There was standing room only in a crowd of around 800 gathered to send off this unit whose mission it is to “alert, mobilize, marshal, and deploy in support of operations as designated by the Governor of the State of Louisiana and, upon activation into federal service, those operations designated by the President of the United States.”  Dignataries in attendance included Major General Bennett C. Landreneau, Mayor Mac Watts, Representative Hunter Green, Rep. Bodi White, and Rep Cliff Richardson.  The Central community is grateful for our military men and women, and we wish them the best as they deploy to Iraq.
