Generations of Family Exhibit Same Love of Art

By  |

This month at the Joor Road branch of the Public Library, several generations of artists will have their work on display.  Demonstrating that such a legacy is not held only by Wyeths, the exhibit will showcase the work of 4 generations of the same family.  Beginning with Michael Akimov-Peretz, an illustrator with Harper Brothers Publishing Co., and continuing with his wife Mary, a noted portrait artist, and brother John, the “Capitol Hill Caricaturist”, down through the works of Elizabeth Fussell, their great-granddaughter, the show covers almost 100 years of art.  Titled “From Russia With Love”, the show documents the lives of the Akimov-Peretz family, who were born in St. Petersburg Russia just before the Russian Revolution.  Escaping with what little remained of their family to the United States, they carried with them rare engravings and family paintings.  The works of one brother, Vladimir, are now part of the permanent collection of the Virginia Museum of Fine Art and are not part of this exhibit for that reason.  Seven family members will have works in the show, which will remain up until March 31st
