CP Coach Shares Thoughts on Baseball Series against Silliman

Taking 2 out of 3 games from Silliman was huge for our squad; however, we dropped the final game of the series from not being mentally prepared, and I take full responsibility for the loss.  Game 1 was an outstanding game to watch and be a part of with a gutsy performance from Brennan Fucich.  Fucich was in control the whole game by working ahead and keeping the Silliman hitters off balance.  With timely hitting and sound defense, we were a good ball team in the first game.  The Game 2 starter was Blake Chelette, who has been giving us quality starts.  He kept us in the game by his will to compete long enough for our hitters to come through.  When we had the bases loaded with no outs at the top of the 5th, down 3-2, cleanup hitter Fucich stepped in as Silliman put in their ace pitcher Barnes.  Fucich got a fastball in the zone and connected.  I knew off the bat that he had “got it.”  I was happy for him and for the team.  In Game 3 our guys came out flat but did start the game with a 2 spot in the top of the first; however, Silliman answered with 3 runs.  The team battled back to take the lead in the top of the 7th but gave it right back.  As a team we have been rolling, but giving away Game 3 of the series made the team understand how we can be detoured from our goal and everything we have been working so hard for since we began practicing.  The team is ready to bounce back and get us back on track.
