La. 64 Magnolia Bridge Replacement Project Update

April 1, 2011

The contractor has begun working on the east end of the bridge, which is on the Livingston Parish side of the project towards the west end. The new bridge will have a total of 28 bents supporting the bridge. A bent consists of piles and caps. Piles are concrete posts driven into the ground which act as supports for the bridge. A cap is placed on top to allow crews to place girders from bent to bent.

The contractor has completed two bents and is working on a third. Crews are also working on completing the access road for the project. The access road will provide the crews with access in and out of the construction site and not impeded the flow of traffic on the old bridge.

This picture shows the forming caps looking east.
