Central Not Guaranteed Spot on BREC Board

House Bill 322 sponsored by Central's own Representative Clif Richardson was deferred in a Senate committee, shutting down the effort to guarantee Central, Baker and Zachary a representative on the BREC Board.  The bill, if passed, would have allowed the voters of EBR to decide whether to create these three additional Board seats.  The bill called for increasing the size of the board from 9 members to 12 by adding three seats, one each for Central, Baker and Zachary.  Currently, Bert Neal, a long time Central Resident and former Recreation Director for BREC, serves on the BREC Board.  With Bert Neal on the current Board, Central does have one of nine votes.  However, there is no guarantee that Central will have a representative on the Board next year.  Mr. Neal stopped by and spoke with Central Speaks and emphasized that Representatives Clif Richardson and Bodi White, along with Councilman Scott Wilson and Senator Dale Erdy all did an excellent job of going to bat for Central in this effort.
