SLAUGHTER — Municipal officials in this area will gather Wednesday, June 29, to learn how this year’s regular legislative session has impacted the state's towns and cities.
The Louisiana Municipal Association meeting, hosted by Slaughter Mayor Bobbie Bourgeois, LMA District “H” vice president, will begin at 6:00 p.m. at the Slaughter Town Hall, 3337 Church Street, Slaughter.
District "H" consists of the municipalities of Ascension, East and West Baton Rouge, East and West Feliciana, Iberville, and Pointe Coupee parishes. All mayors, council members, city clerks, city attorneys, key administrators, and chiefs of fire and police in this district are invited to attend this meeting.
LMA Executive Director Tom Ed McHugh will describe the highlights of the Legislature’s 2011 regular session as it impacts municipal governments. Also set to give reports are LMA President Bobby Washington, mayor of Cullen, LMA First Vice President Glenn Brasseaux, mayor of Carencro, and LMA Second Vice President Hilda Daigre Curry, mayor of New Iberia.
Scheduled topics include an update on LMA services and programs, the LMA’s 74th annual convention set for August 4-6 in Shreveport, and the National League of Cities’ 88th Annual Congress of Cities conference set for November 9-12 in Phoenix, AZ.
"The LMA has been very fortunate to have an outstanding leader in Mayor Bobbie Bourgeois. Her longtime generous and selfless service on our Executive Board for several years has enriched our Association and municipal government in many positive ways," Mayor Washington said.
The district's members will elect a district vice president to represent them on the 2011-2012 LMA Executive Board, beginning in August. The district's members also will endorse the candidacies of elected municipal officials who are running for statewide LMA offices – president, first vice president, and second vice president. The elections for these posts will occur at LMA's annual business meeting on August 6 in Shreveport.
