Community Responding After House Fires

By  |

In the “CAN DO” Spirit that lives in Central, the following opportunities are presented to our City to aide 3 families that have suffered through house fires recently here:

The MICHAEL LOVELADY family lost their home behind the Cracker Barrel on Hooper Road in May.  There will be a jambalaya dinner (jambalaya, white beans, salad, roll) fundraiser on August 20 at 12:00 at Our Place Restaurant at 9783 Hooper Road.  Tickets are $5.00 per dinner. A silent auction will also be held.  Please call Kelly at Our Place to donate items for this auction.  There will also be a raffle of a flat screen tv.  Dinner tickets and raffle tickets may be purchased by contacting Tara Shelton at [email protected] or Kelly Mansur at Our Place Restaurant – 261-9154.  You may also call to make a donation to the family.

The JASON KESNER/ALLISON KIRBY Family just lost their home this past Saturday.    They need ladies’ size 16-18 pants and XL shirts, size 9 ½ shoe; men’s 2XL shirts and size 38-40 pants (32”long); pre-k girls’ size 5 –6 clothing, size 10 shoes, and newborn boy’s clothing.  Dr. Kim Fralick of Joor Road Veterinary Hospital (10433 Joor Rd.) and Central Drug Store (13565 Hooper Rd.) have volunteered to be collection sites.  A page has been set up for them at http://jakesner.chipin.com/jason-and-allison-kesner-loss-of-home-due-to-fire for monetary donations.

THE BROWN FAMILY lost their home in Northwoods last Thursday, July 19.  Due to the fact that their children are in the Central Community School System, CCAF is handling relief efforts for them.  They need boys’ clothes size 4-5T and 10, girls’ clothes size 10/12, ladies’ size 6/7 and mens’ size 6X.  CCAF does not have the ability to store large items, but if you would like to donate some, you may call 571-3337 for more information.  Household items, stuffed toys, food, personal items, gift cards are all appreciated.  A collection time will be held Tuesday, August 2nd, at Bellingrath Elementary School from 8:00-3:00.  Large items cannot be accepted at Bellingrath, please call the above number to arrange for those donations.  Monetary donations can be made online at www.HelpCentralStudents.com.

Anyone who has lost a home or known someone who has knows the complete disorientation that follows such a shock.  Let’s reach out to our neighbors in this difficult time and help them regain normalcy.  Just a note: gift cards are ALWAYS a good choice.  There’s no telling what Central CAN DO with its CAN DO attitude!
