Blackwater Honors Three Eagle Scouts

    Troop 13 chartered by Blackwater United Methodist Church held an Eagle Court of Honor on Saturday July 23, 2011 honoring three of their scouts; Andrew Sibley, Garrett  Jarvis, and Orrin Byland. 

    Andrew Sibley is the son of Jami and Mike Hayes of Baton Rouge and Jeff and Joann Sibley of Central.   He is a graduate of St. Michael High School, attended LSU, and will soon report for duty with the US Navy.  Andrew attended the 2005 National Jamboree, the Northern Tier Canoe Base, and worked the aquatics area at Avondale Summer Camp.  He is a BSA Lifeguard and a Brotherhood member in the Order of the Arrow.  For his Eagle project, Andrew created a bird habitat on the island at the Blackwater Conservation Area by removing unwanted trees and planting live oaks.

    Garrett Jarvis is the son of Keith and Robin Jarvis of Baton Rouge.  He is a graduate of Central High and attends the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.  He is a Brotherhood member in the Order of the Arrow.  For his Eagle project, Garrett built an outdoor classroom at St. Helena Elementary School.

    Orrin Byland is the son Matt and Jan Byland of Central.  He is a graduate of Central Private High and will start at LSU this fall.  Orrin attended the 100th Anniversary of Scouting is Chelmsford, England, was a team member at ArrowCorp5 Bridger-Teton Wyoming, worked Flight School at Avondale Summer Camp and teaches orienteering at Avondale Winter Camp.  He is a BSA Lifeguard and an Ordeal member in the Order of the Arrow.  For his Eagle project, Orrin built an arbor swing for the teachers at Central Private Upper Elementary School.

    The leaders of Troop 13 congratulate Andrew, Garrett, and Orrin on their achievement of the Eagle Scout Honor and wish them continued success in the future.
