School Board Corrects Sales Tax Error

The Central Community School Board has paved the way to permanently correct an error in the extra half cent sales tax paid in Central.  When the Central voters approved the half cent sales tax in 2009 to fund the new Middle School, the tax was to end when the Middle School Bonds were paid off.  An error in the wording of the tax proposal resulted in the tax being perpetual.  The School Board immediately passed a resolution promising to end the tax when the Middle School Bonds were retired, but that action can be overturned.  The proposal now is to ask the voters in an election this fall to mandate that the tax ends with the retirement of the bonds.  If the voters approve this action, the sales tax could only be imposed again by a vote of the people.
