School Bus Battery Thefts in Central

By  |

From the City of Central

Sometime between 4:30 pm on Friday, September 2nd and 5:00 am Tuesday, September 6th, batteries were stolen off of school buses parked near Frenchtown Rd on Greenwell Springs Road and from buses parked along Monterrey Blvd.   In the past year, we have seen an increase in theft of batteries from school buses in Central and Baton Rouge.  Batteries have been stolen out of buses around Frenchtown Rd and area Wal-Marts 4 times in the past 6 months.  Thieves are selling the batteries for upwards of $150, while it cost $500 to replace both batteries in the bus.  Besides the fact that replacement costs are high, students are forced to wait outside in the heat (or cold during the winter) for a late bus due to a criminal act.  Anyone with information on these events should contact the Sheriff’s Office, Central Substation.
