BREC Holding Informational Meeting on G.S. Historic Park

By  |

BREC will be hosting an informational, “Open House” style meeting at the Joor Road branch of the EBR public library on Wednesday, September 14 from 5-7 PM. The meeting is a follow up on that held June 21 on the proposed Greenwell Springs Historic Park project. There will be Preferred Master Plan exhibits, information on nature trails and proposed programming, and an overview of the Park’s context with other historical sites. Questions will be answered and input received. A questionnaire will be available. According to the BREC website, the park will be “an 83-acre nature and historic area” and will feature “interpretive information telling the story of the area’s rich cultural history as a resort centered around the natural springs, a Civil War encampment, and as a tuberculosis hospital. The site will also offer picnic areas, fitness paths, open spaces for leisure recreation, pavilions, scenic hiking trails, and an overlook of the Amite River.”
