New Sidewalks for Central

By  |

Mayor Watts announced Tuesday at City Council that the City has received a grant for two important sections of sidewalk.  The first will be a five foot wide sidewalk from Wax and Sullivan, extending past Central High, all the way to Banway just before Demco.  This will allow many students to walk safely to and from school.  The second sidewalk will connect the corner of Hooper and Sullivan all the way past the new school complex to Jackson Place, again providing a safe means of walking to school for many students.  The grant, secured by the Mayor's office, is a 5% matching grant of $440,000.  The City would only pay 5% of the cost plus engineering fees.  This is another example of Good News for a Great City.

This is great news! Although my children are small, for the first time the other day older kids walking to the highschool so close to cars and it really stressed me out. We need to keep them safe. In addition, I live on Sullivan Road between Centralwoods St and Wax, it is AMAZING how many people of all ages, moms with children, students walk down Sullivan Road. We need even more sidewalks!

This grant has been around for sometime now. Livingston and Zachary have already taken advantage of this money for example ride down Thunder Bird Beach Rd or Hwy 964 and you will see. There is enough linear feet of sidewalk on 964 to to probably add sidewalks along every street in Central.

Would really like to see one from the new retirement community to the corner of Joor and Hooper . Elderly folks walk to Winn Dixie and it’s a accident waiting to happen
