Central High School class of 2011 honors graduate Kay Rawls has been named the United States Bowling Congress/Women’s Bowling Association Louisiana youth female bowler of the year. Rawls currently holds the LHSAA girls’ high single game record as well as records for single high game and high series for boys and girls at Central High School. In July Rawls was honored in Las Vegas, Nevada, as a member of the 2011 United States Bowling Congress/Dexter High School All American Team. Over the summer Rawls participated in the USBC Youth Open where she placed thirty-third nationally in all events. Rawls’s team, which included Central teens Amy Coward and Bryan Waites, along with Baton Rouge resident, Ryne Daigle, placed sixteenth nationally in the Open. Rawls is currently a freshman at Louisiana Tech University where she is studying Psychology, Sociology, and Spanish in the school’s Honors College and she is a member of the university’s women’s bowling team, the Lady Techsters. The Techsters recently took first place in the Southern Classic Challenge hosted in Baton Rouge after setting a new LA Tech school record of sixteen straight wins.
