The Central High swim team had a solid performance in the state meet last week in Sulphur.  The boys scored 57 points and finished 12th, while the girls scored 31 points and finished 15th.

The boys were once again led by freshman Matthew Arnold.  Matthew finished 4th in the 500 freestyle with a personal best time of 5:27.22.  Then Matthew finished 5th in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:03.79.  Daniel Parker finished 11th in the 100 breastroke with a time of 1:14.78.  Also swimming on relays were Kade McAdams, Aaron Raggio, and Sean Murphy.

On the girls’ side, Mary Catherine Hodges finished 8th in the 50 freestyle in a time of 28.28 seconds.  Emerald Roney swam the 100 yard backstroke in 1:15.94 which was good enough for 11th.  Beka Lizarraga and Jessica Hooper also swam on relays.

The swim team only loses two seniors, Beka Lizarraga and Mary Catherine Hodges, off of this year’s team, which has Coach LaGroue excited about the future of the swim program.  In a sport that necessitates having a large number of athletes on the team in order to compete as a team, the coaches are hoping the outstanding performances by many first-year swimmers will encourage other students at Central to join the team.
