Annual radiothon supports St. Jude Children's Research Hospital

Radio station WYNK is encouraging Baton Rouge-area listeners to tune in on Thursday, January 26, 2012 and Friday, January 27, 2012 from 6:00a.m. to 7:00p.m. each day for the annual Country Cares for St. Jude Kids® radiothon live from WYNK. The radiothon raises money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®, one of the world’s premier centers for the research and treatment of pediatric cancer and other deadly childhood diseases.

Among this year’s program highlights, Baton Rouge-area St. Jude patients will share their experience with radiothon listeners. Local listeners interested in helping to fight childhood cancer and other catastrophic illnesses can pledge a donation by calling 1-888-280-HOPE (4673) or by visiting WYNK’s website at www.wynk.com.

WYNK has raised over $3.4 million for St. Jude since it first began hosting Country Cares for St. Jude Kids radiothons.

Over the years we’ve heard so many positive and inspiring stories during our radiothon,” said Sam McGuire, Program Director for WYNK. “Our Baton Rouge-area listeners always amaze us- year after year helping raise critical funds to help children battling cancer and other catastrophic diseases at St. Jude and in communities across the country.”

St. Jude is internationally recognized for its pioneering research and treatment of children with cancer and other deadly diseases and has treated children from all 50 states and around the world. The hospital’s research has helped push overall survival rates for childhood cancer from less than 20 percent when the institution opened to almost 80 percent today. It is the first and only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center devoted solely to children, and no family ever pays St. Jude for care.

Now more than ever, St. Jude needs the support of country music listeners to continue its mission of finding cures and saving children.
