Central Baseball Looks for New Beginning in District Play

By  |

The Wildcats’ week got off to a great start in a 2-0 victory over Central Catholic. Scoring was hard to come by in the pitching duel, but the Wildcats did push across two runs. Central pushed across their first run in the fourth on an error by the second baseman that allowed Mason Gautreaux to score. In the sixth, Corey Davis scored on a sacrifice bunt by Thomas Eddlemon. Ryan Navarra pitched an excellent ball game, going all seven innings while only giving up two hits and no runs.

Central then lost a tough game against the #1 Parkview Eagles on Thursday, 11-1. Brett Courville and Micah Jones each had two hits, and Jones had the lone RBI in the game. Gautreaux went 3 and 2/3 innings and only gave up one earned run. The Wildcats then went down to New Orleans on Saturday to face the #2 Jesuit Blue Jays. It was a close game throughout, but Central went down 4-1. The Wildcats had eight hits and were led by Cole Edgens (3) and Brett Courville (2). Thomas Eddlemon got the only Wildcat RBI on a groundout in the third inning that scored Cole Edgens. Preston Fondren pitched 5 and 2/3 innings and gave up two earned runs on seven hits. Cole Edgens came in and got the last out in the sixth.

The Wildcats (6-17) currently sit at #48 in the unofficial power rankings, but Central now gets a chance to start over. “District play gives us a chance to put everything that has happened behind us. We can start over and still make the playoffs”, said Coach Forbes. The Wildcats will get that chance this week when they take on Walker, Denham Springs, and Scotlandville.
