REGAINING LOST GROUND

Joshua 8:1, Then the LORD said to Joshua, “Do not be afraid or discouraged. Take all your fighting men and attack Ai, for I have given you the king of Ai, his people, his town, and his land.
Joshua had just experienced a great victory at Jericho.  Then he suffered a crushing defeat at Ai.  When the cause of the defeat was exposed, Joshua dealt with it and humbly received instructions on how to win back the city he had just lost.
Joshua learned an important lesson.  Following God is not a cookie-cutter proposition. One day is not just like the next.  One victory does not become the prescription for thd next.
Not only did God have a plan for the re-capture of Israel's lost ground He also had a word of tender encouragement to his defeated leader.   "Do not be afraid or discouraged."   Temporary losses should not cause  fear or depression.  We will all experience setbacks in our lives but they are not a permanent condition.  Our setbacks, when approached with an attitude of humility and willingness to learn, will serve as springboards to propel us to the victory God has for us.    Even when we lose a battle, we know that God has won the war!  Remember:

"And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. (Romans 8:28 NLT)
