From the City of Central
City-Parish officials held a ground-breaking ceremony last Thursday for the widening of Sullivan Rd from the Central Thruway to 2,250 feet north of Wax Rd.  This is latest project to start under the City-Parish Green Light Plan.  The contractor is J.B. James Construction, LLC, and the design engineer is SIGMA Consulting Group, Inc.  The estimated construction cost is $11,257,327.55.
According to parish officials, the project improvements include widening the existing two-lane, undivided Sullivan Rd to a four-lane roadway with two lanes in each direction, eight-foot shoulders, and a raised median in the middle.  Intersection improvements are also a key component to this project, featuring signal upgrades at the Sullivan Rd at Lovett Rd intersection, and additional turn lanes at Lovett Rd and at Wax Rd.  Several sharp curves will be realigned throughout the project helping to ensure safe and efficient traffic along this stretch of Sullivan Rd.
With an anticipated construction duration of 30 months (including clearing & grubbing, utility relocation, and actual construction), this new and improved roadway will serve as a key connector roadway contributing toward an improved north-south connection across the parish extending from Nicholson Drive to Hooper Rd.  The project becomes another critical Green Light Plan road improvements project to reach the construction phase, contributing to the overall traffic mitigation efforts for the City-Parish.
