Art League Show Opens November 2nd

By  |

The Art League of Central is proud to announce the “Exploring Dimensions of Art”

show, opening November 2 at the Central branch of the East Baton Rouge Parish

Library on Joor Road. The show will feature the works of two local artists, Sheila

Kelly and Derrel Robinson.

Sheila Kelly is a retired teacher and grandmother of six. Since her retirement in

2004, she has taught collage and mixed media art in the community through Leisure

Learning and The Red Shoes, and in her home studio, retirement communities, and

the public library systems. She is passionate about collage, and loves to share her

art through teaching. She finds this art form accessible, forgiving, and adaptable

to multiple skill levels from cut-tear-and-paste to intricate fine art creations. Her

collages, composed of many materials, resemble fine paintings or tapestries in their

beautiful use of color and texture.

After a stint in the United States Air Force, Derrel Robinson moved to Anchorage,

Alaska, where he was employed as an architectural draftsman while getting his

degree from the University of Alaska in cultural anthropology. While appreciative

of many art forms, he experiences the most satisfaction from expressing emotive

fragments in black and white ink work. His monochrome drawings reflect his unique

perspective, using symbolism he has extracted from various cultures, especially

the indigenous Alaskan people, and his own experiences. He is endlessly open to

experimentation and stretching his own boundaries.

A reception open to the public will be held at the library on November 2nd from 3:00-

5:00. The Show will run through November 30.
