Baton Rouge Airport Debuts Wings for Autism Program

By  |

wingsforautismB    On April 11 the Baton Rouge Airport held its first Wings for Autism program. This event gives the families of children with autism and other sensory issues a chance to practice everything from arrival, to security, to boarding the plane.
Central resident Randi Stephens has two autistic sons. She explains "it's an unfamiliar situation with unfamiliar sights and sounds. That can sometimes be very scary to both of my children. Especially my youngest, he has a lot of sensory issues." Randi says the Wings for Autism program was "a great trial run for us so we are going on vacation and we're going to fly."
Airport officials say about 30 families showed up for the trial run and that everything went smoothly.
