Business Spotlight: Blue Line Driving Academy

By  |

BlueLine1b                Blue Line Driving Academy will be opening soon at 13623 Hooper Rd, in the shopping center across from the old middle school. The first class will be held July 13. Blue Line was started by Cody Wray four and a half years ago in Gonzales and now has two locations – Denham Springs and Central. Their Denham Springs location has been open for two and a half years. Mr. Wray estimates that Blue Line has taught approximately 1400 teenagers how to drive since they’ve been open. Mr. Wray grew up in Central and Denham Springs and likes to give back to his community. Blue Line supports Project Graduation in Denham Springs, a lock-in style event at Denham Springs High School on the night of graduation that allows seniors to have plenty of fun in a safe environment.

Blue Line got its name from Mr. Wray’s brother, who is a detective. The “thin blue line” is a common symbol for police officers, and the teens who complete the course at Blue Line sign a “Blue for Life” pledge stating that they will wear their seatbelts and refrain from texting while driving. Blue Line is committed to giving drivers a quality education and every student drives on the interstate, learns how to change a tire, and learns how to jump start a car. Some classes get a visit from a State Trooper who shows them overturned vehicles and emphasizes the importance of driver safety. In order to keep quality high, class size is kept low. Most classes have less than 15 students. Mr. Wray strongly believes that “cost is not as important as safety” and hopes that parents make the decision to give their teen a high quality education when it comes to driver’s ed. Blue Line currently has six instructors, including trained counselors who can help nervous drivers overcome their fear or just be there to listen and support students who may be having troubles during the turbulent teenage years. Blue Line picks students up and drops them off at their own home and the instructor will speak to the student’s parents every day to keep them informed of the progress they are making.

Blue Line Driving Academy will be open six days a week in Central and will also have a notary on hand every day for added convenience. Blue Line has a 38 hour class once a month for first time drivers, with each student spending 30 hours in the classroom and 8 hours driving. Blue Line also offers a defensive driving course and an adult driving course for those 18 years old or older every Saturday. The adult classes are 14 hours – 6 hours in class and 8 on the road.
