Election Results: Central to Receive Funds from Parish

By  |

On Saturday, Louisiana’s next Governor, Lt. Governor, and Attorney General were chosen in a statewide election that had between a 37% and 40% voter turnout for each race.  These three races were runoffs after last month’s election narrowed the field to two candidates in each race.  John Bel Edwards (D) was elected Governor, defeating David Vitter (R) 56% to 44%.  Billy Nungesser (R) won the Lt. Governor’s race 55% to 45% over Kip Holden (D).  Jeff Landry (R) defeated incumbent Buddy Caldwell (R) in the race for Attorney General.  In the parish vote for BESE District 6, Kathy Edmonston (R) beat Jason Engen (R) 52% to 48% with a 42% voter turnout.
Of particular note to Central residents is the parish-wide vote that passed 64% to 36% with a 36% voter turnout.  This vote gives Central an estimated $142,000 per year in Parish Revenue Sharing for the next ten years.  The legislation, sponsored by Metro Council Member Scott Wilson, is good news to Central, who will get a share of property taxes paid by industrial companies in EBR Parish.
