Several CHS students joined over 1000 attendees at Louisiana Tech University’s annual Engineering and Science Day on April 12, 2016 in Ruston, LA. During this event, students participated in hands-on activities while exploring various disciplines of engineering and science such as civil, electrical, biomedical, nanosystems technology, and physics. Seniors Bree Anders, Josh Bogan, Jacob Crowell, Logan Thames, Junior Matthew Eldridge, and Sophomore Jessie Furr were excited to attend the event. Logan Thames plans to attend LA Tech in the Fall and said, “I’m so glad I got to go to not only learn about biomedical engineering, but all the other engineering topics I can choose from. The activities were fun to work with like building a catapult, creating an electric current, and making a type of gel. This experience gave me a good idea of what I would like to study while in college!”
Louisiana Tech University engineering graduates rank number one in the state in average starting salaries and number one in the least amount of student debt. Founded in 1894, LA Tech offers a private college atmosphere at a public university, with an enrollment of 11,014 students from 44 states and 65 nations. Incoming freshmen are required to have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and a minimum ACT Composite score of 23.
Not only does LA Tech University award degrees in Engineering and Science, but also in Applied and Natural Sciences, Business, Education, and Liberal Arts. Jessie Furr stated that “the Engineering and Science day at LA Tech is a great way to explore your future career options in the science field! The program is very interactive and you learn a lot about what exactly people do for their job. I now have a better idea of what requirements colleges want from me when applying, too. Anyone can find a place at LA Tech.”
CHS Math Teacher Mona Crump would like to give special thanks to David Prescott, John Corley, Frank Fresina, and Amanda Navarre for providing our students with this much appreciated and valuable opportunity.
