School Board Delays Expenditures

Temporary Buildings and Parking Lots on Hold

Citing concerns over the impact of the State Legislature on funding, the Central Community School Board voted to delay purchasing temporary modular wings to replace t-buildings at Bellingrath and Tanglewood.  In an unrelated project, bid irregularities caused a delay to a high school parking lot replacement.
The low bid to supply the temporary buildings was $1.172 million for three-year-old “like new” modular wings.  Just $11,000 higher, the second place bidder offered new modular wings.  The School Board voted not to follow through with the purchase until more is known about funding for education from the state legislature.
The School Board also opted not to award a contract to complete phase three of the parking lot replacement at Central High School.  The three low bidders were disqualified for failure to comply with paperwork requirements in their bid packages, leaving the fourth lowest bidder as the lowest qualifying bid of $774,817, which Superintendent Faulk explained exceeded the budget for the project.
