Rock Foundation Cambodia Update

By Rock Foundation Cambodia
Cambodia is currently experiencing severe drought conditions due to weather that is expected to delay the rainy season until August or September. The Ministry of Water Resources and Management is estimating that between 15,000 and 16,000 Cambodia families will be affected by the lack of water for drinking, bathing, and growing crops.  To aid in the effort, we are continuing to focus on drilling wells in rural areas that are have been hit hardest by the drought.
And when people thirst, when those poor souls with parched tongues look in vain for something to drink, I, the Eternal, the God of Israel, won't leave them to suffer. I will respond by making the hard, brown hills sparkle with streams of fresh water and causing valleys to come alive with springs. I will see that gentle pools wait on the desert floor for the weary traveler, and great fountains bubble up from dry ground.
– Isaiah 41:17-18

The past two months have presented an array of challenges for the drilling team that have ranged from personnel turnover to equipment repairs and stubborn geological formations, but we have successfully managed to drill 4 water wells in Prey Veng (about 60 miles outside Phnom Penh) and 6 wells in Svay Rieng (about 115 miles from Phnom Penh). Even with the operational challenges we’ve faced, the average cost of these wells has been around $1,500 each. That may sound like a lot, but many organizations find that their well costs are nearly twice that amount. It will take many organizations and a lot of sweat equity to bring water to the thousands who are currently in need, but we’ll keep at it – one well at a time. If you have the ability to partner up with us and sponsor a well or contribute to the project, please visit rockfoundationcambodia.webs.com. Thank you all for the continued prayer and support. Any amount is appreciated, and together we can all make a difference.
