Demolition of Old Central Middle School to Proceed

By  |

The Central Community School Board will spend $270,500 for asbestos abatement and demolition of all but one of the remaining buildings at the former school site at Sullivan and Hooper.
The initial demolition and abatement effort left two large buildings standing that the School Board was considering placing back into service.  That plan has been abandoned and only the small white former industrial arts building will remain standing, and will be used to house maintenance services.
The demolition will necessitate the rental of four T-Buildings to house officials and players for Central High athletic events as required by the LA High School Athletic Association.  These buildings are reported to cost $20,000 per year.
Four bidders responded to the demolition quote, with bids of $571,948, $359,602, $305,000, and the low bidder, Arc Abatement 1, Ltd., at $270,500.  Demolition is scheduled to begin in July.
