State Assistance on Drainage Requested

By  |

Central’s Senator Bodi White met week with Governor Edwards and the DOTD to discuss Central’s drainage challenges. Hooper Road and Wax Road are state highways that act as barriers to the north-south flow of drainage in Central. Senator White has asked the state to make immediate efforts to ensure that the drainage along and under these highways are well-maintained, and that enlarging of these culverts be considered.
In the meeting, also attended by Central’s Mayor Junior Shelton, Senator White brought up the possibility of the state assisting Central’s efforts by allocating a portion of $40 million in Federal mitigation money left over from the Hurricane Gustav cleanup. A decision on this funding will likely take several months.
