Central Stepping Up for Texas

After experiencing the Flood of 2016, citizens of Central remember all too well the horrors that Texas is now facing and are working hard to lend a helping hand to our neighbor.  ​The Cajun Navy’s ranks have been swelled by many Central citizens, as have that of the Capital Area Law Enforcement Foundation, who are in Pasadena cooking meals for first responders.  For those of us who can’t offer a physical presence, the following organizations are giving the opportunity to reach out to Texas in other meaningful ways:
The Central Distribution Center ​-​13505 Hooper Road.  ​C​ollecting donations to go to Rockport, Texas​.  Open every day from 10-7 through September 4.  Items needed are listed on the Rolling In With Relief Amazon wishlist at http://a.co/b7eQmzP​.  Co-sponsored by the City of Central, Berkshire Hathaway​ Home Services​,​ Oak Point Fresh Market​ and PODS​.  ​Baby supplies are especially needed.  ​C​lothing can NOT be accepted at this time.  PODS have been set up at both Oak Point Fresh Markets (Central and Watson) and Nooley’s Restaurant in Prairieville.  More information can be found at the “Rolling In With Relief” Facebook page.
Blackwater United Methodist Church​, 10000 Blackwater Road​​- ​collecting supplies for Flood Buckets.  A list of supplies is available on their Facebook page.  Donations may be dropped off between 9-2 Tuesday – Thursday and Sunday 9-12 and 4-7.  Monetary donations should be made out to the church and designated “Harvey”. ​N​o clothes can be accepted at this time.  Call 261-4646 for more information.
Greenwell Springs Baptist Church​ – 19421 Greenwell Springs Road. Collecting Flood Relief Cleaning Bucket supplies.  The cost to fill these buckets is $65.  You can either buy the items or send a check made out to the church.  An items list is available on the church’s Facebook page.  Donations will be accepted from 8-4 Monday -Friday. ​C​all the office for more information at 261-2246. 
Journey Church​ -17407 Greenwell Springs Road.  Accepting donations of cleaning supplies, new (in wrapper) socks, underwear, and blankets, flats of water, diapers, baby wipes, and non-perishable food items.  Cash or check​s ​ma​de​ out to Journey Church and designate “Houston Relief”​ also being received​.  Donations can also be made online at TakeTheJourney.tv.  Drop off items at the front of the church under the overhang – volunteers will help you unload​  9-5 Monday – Thursday and Sunday during the 8:45, 10:30, and 12:15 services.  Chase Healthcare is also receiving donations for Journey.  Call 262-4381 for more information.
Zoar Baptist Church​ – 11848 Hooper Road.  Packing “Buckets of Hope”.  A list of needed items can be found on their Facebook page.   Donations may be dropped off at the church between 7:30-4:00 Monday – Friday.  Please call 261-3434 for more information.
