Scotty’s Quest Continues

By  |
Scotty’s Quest has been selling t-shirts to promote an anti-bullying campaign.  Profits from the shirts benefit the Central High School Arts Department and the food bank.  With each shirt, brochures are handed out with helpful information, including the following:
What is bullying?
Bullying involves one or more people teasing, being violent toward, or harassing somebody on an ongoing basis.  Bullying can happen in person, online (cyber bullying), and through cell phones.  Physical bullying increases in elementary school, peaks in middle school, and declines in high school.  Verbal abuse, on the other hand, remains constant.
How to get help now:
If you are in immediate risk of harm, call 911.  If you are feeling down and want to talk to a trained counselor 24/7 confidentially and for free, text DS to 741-741.  If you are feeling hopeless and suicidal, call 24/7: 1-800-273-8255.  If you are being bullied, talk to your parent, teacher, school counselor, or school principal.  They are there to help.
Working it out yourself:
Ignore the bully.  If they feel they are not upsetting you, they may stop.  Walk away.  You don’t have to stay.  Surround yourself with people who care about you.  Build an invisible wall around you.  Any hurtful words will just bounce off of the wall.
What to do if you think someone is being bullied:
Talk to that person.  Let that person know you care.  Include the person in your group.  Stick up for him or her.  Speak to someone (parent or teacher).
“Never be bullied into silence.  Never allow yourself to be made a victim.  Accept no one’s definition of your life, but define yourself.” – Tim Fields
Together we can stop bullying.  Find Scotty’s Quest on Facebook.  If you would like to buy a shirt and support these efforts, send you payment and the information below to the listed address.
